Browse no further. You couldn't ask for a better venue for your first foray into competition BBQ - hear me out now, don't browse away just yet.

If you've never done this kind of thing before, you might be very surprised about how much help you'll get from seasoned veteran teams and experienced rookie teams alike.

Here's how it works - you arrive Friday afternoon/evening and are assigned your space which usually measures about 10x20 feet. Another team will be to your right, and another to your left. These are your neighbors for the weekend.

But these are the good kind of neighbors - new friends in fact. And friends always help friends out. Chances are, at least one of your neighbors have done this before, and they probably see a bit of themselves you if it's your first time.

Every competitor you meet that weekend - no matter how senior, has been in your shoes already. You might be very surprised at just how willing your fellow competitors are to help you through the ropes.

That's what this BBQ competition thing is all about: fierce competition, comradery, respect, brethren-ship, and a passion for the pursuit of great BBQ. It is both very humbling and rewarding all at the same time.

So ponder no longer - sign on up. You'll probably make more new friends in this one weekend than any other, and your que might just improve a little. By the time Monday morning rolls around you'll find yourself day-dreaming about what a great time you had. You might even be bit by the BBQ bug.
